Games community. Lots of options here, would need someone with games experience to partner.
News. There a so many ways to do news services better than what's offered today. I know a tiny bit re this area, just after games this is of interest to me.
Media. Well, I've done video and podcasting work on 24x7 already, I wouldn't mind ramping that up.
Finance. This could be big. Actually, perhaps I like this category more than games. This would work out on many fronts, plus I've had some experience in the area :-o
Support. Well, 24x7 does mean service and support is usually prefixed by 24x7, so...
Telecoms.
This one is of great interest to me but not for me to do solo. And please
stop sending MVNO proposals, that is not of interest to me and if you're
smart it's of no interest to you either. Connectivity is good, perhaps
a data service branded with 24x7 or an acquisition(s).
Transportation. I'm into public transport as well as electric vehicles, this are interests me.
Energy. This is a natural, if you know me you know I love the area. Could we deliver clean electrons 24x7?
Music. This is a tough area, however 24x7 is easy to remember. But I might be too chicken to gamble in this area with Apple and the others in it.
Entertainment. I love this category, if I had a lot of free time I think I would concentrate on this one.Directory. Business.com was developed well, if I'm remembering correctly it sold in 2007 for USD 350 million, and back around 1999 the domain name alone sold for something like 7 million bucks. 24x7 could be a resource, a repository for certain information, if you have thoughts about this I'd like to talk.
Of course there's always the kitchen sink approach, organise around 24x7 and do multiple categories. But I'm not smart enough to figure that one out. I think I will go with simple. Yes. Simple.
24x7.com is like
owning an
entire address on Park Avenue, better than
sex.com because it's legit and every person on the planet knows what it
means!
...was overheard in an East Hampton restaurant on Friday night. I don't disagree. Okay, so it was someone at my table who said that but I still don't disagree :-o
It's all kind of crazy really, those trying to purchase or hijack this 24x7.com domain must think it has value for their business. But if you have a great business you can have pretty much any domain name and succeed.
What a domain like 24x7.com or sex.com get you is intant recognition - and that's all. You can use it for a brand, but it's not going do it on its own. Yes, you will save a bundle on building that brand wiith the domain, and yes you will not have to shell out nearly as much as you would with a bad brand domaiin, but everyone should think about whether it makes sense when you could just throw money at the growth problem. I go back and forth on this, I think I'd rather own an earning asset that appreciates than have constant opex, but that's just me.
The point is, the 24x7.com domain wants to grow up, it's time to become the giga-scale destination for something new, or something we've been doing but want to expand - so let's discuss it:
Contact me if you're a creative and talented developer
I'm not averse to doing something commercial with it, though it might be nice to offer free services, perhaps a community project. Or maybe I will wake up tomorrow morning an decide to continue my 24x7 business though at perhaps a more moderate pace to give me more time for my other projects.
What do you think 24x7.com could be?
Let's think about who knows 24x7 and what 24x7 means.
Start with the fact 24x7 is internationally understood.
24x7 is a concept, it's a promise, it's something almost every business tells to it customers it represents.
That is indeed why I chose 24x7.com as my business name and registered the domain in 1995. I've been very happy with how 24x7.com has helped me, I'm looking forward to new ideas and extending into new areas (did I mention a free games community?).
Bottom line, 24x7 is a brand and a branding, one could do almost any business and brand with 24x7, use 24x7.com as an entry ramp, or a funnel as one marketing guys are keen on saying.
In that blue-ish box over there on the left of this page I've started to compose a list, it comprises some of the ideas that have been proposed by others looking to re-develop 24x7.com with me and some my own thoughts.
If you feel your creative juices flowing and looking for a project let's talk. At the very least I'd appreciate your thoughtful suggestions.
One more thing and as an aside, as you would imagine I've been solicited, let's say bombarded with solicitations, to sell 24x7.com however that would not be a likely path unless, LOL, you have the kind of bucks to support a BBJ habit.
